Can thinking "positive" change the outcome of things?
For example, if I think positive about getting into my top university, will it happen? Of course I have good grades & put in a lot of effort into the application, but it is very competitive and sometimes I feel like I don't have a chance. But some people say, if I think "positive," I will get in. Is this true? What's your experience with thinking positive?

1. Think positive and do positive.... that would help
2. Attitude is almost everything. What it lacks, effort will make up for. You already have the physical part down (good grades), so when you combine that with a good positive attitude you will be unstoppable.
Best wishes for you in being sucessful at your top university. Post some pics after you get in. :)
3. No, it doesn't. That is just an old wive's tale. There is no way your opinions in your mind can affect someone else's decision miles away, and not even knowing you.
4. If you think positive and think, "Oh, of course I am going to get into that college, piece of cake." and then you get rejected, you will feel horrible! But if you think that you're not going to make it in and then don't make it you won't feel as bad because that was what u were expecting. Best of wishes on the college thing!
5. well i was in the same situation last year. ultimately everything worked out fine. due to privacy issues i cant tell but i really had a very very very challenging last year. it was all to do with financial aid. and again it worked out. thinking abt them i really believe a lot in positive thinking.
now about the rational part of this concept. positive thinking is not something abt thinking positive one day. its actually to do with a positive courage and confidence of doing things right at the right time. what does this mean? well now let us take ur whole life into perspective. think of all the years. u would see often u were depressed, brooding over failures and stuffs. then there were situations where u didnt believe u could do something and so never tried. u would find there are hundreds of things u never tried and thousands of hours u lost on negativities. now if u are a positive person u would have the ability to utilize ur ability to the fullest extent. that helps u getting further.
there is another view abt postive thinking, the concept which believes that just thinking can create wonders, as if thinking by itself does work. I PERSOANLLY THINK THAT IS CRAP.
so ultimately what it boils down to is positive thinking does help a lot. it has helped me and i believe it would help u too. wake up every morning have a nice LE PETIT DEJEUNER and think positive.
6. No, but you could try prayer.
But you must have faith that you will get an answer, if that is God's will for you.
7. Thinking positive will help make everything happen positively. What you want might not happen but the outcome will still be a positive one. Keep in mind that the positive attracts the positive and the negative attracdts the negative.
8. I'm not sure if thinking positive will get you into the college of your choice, but thinking positive will help you much more in the long run. I don't believe by thinking positive some magical brain waves are sent through the universe to bring you good things. But when you are a positive person, you will reap a lot more of benefits. You'll be a happier person, people will like to be around you, and even if you don't get exactly what you want, you'll make the best of it anyway.

Positive thinking without effort on your part is just wishful mumbo-jumbo. It will definitely be a great boost to your self esteem and self image, however, it is difficult to sustain success without the right mettle.
However, positive thinking with effort (that is, apparently you have the brains and expend the necessary effort) is the powerhouse (think, mitochondria) behind any successful person!
Strive to eliminate your negative self-talk ("I don't have a chance", "it is very competitive") which does nothing for you. It only hinders what you Will be and Should be.
From my experience with thinking positive, it is definitely something that every person who wants to be successful and performing at their peak should utilize. I have a really strong Devil's Advocate going on within me, especially when I am going towards the gold. I look to friends and family for support, however, they cannot be there for you all the time. Hence, the most dependable (and convenient) resource is yourself!
Tap into your positive potential, be patient, and you'll reap the rewarding results.
