Does positive thinking ever work?
I have been advised to use positive thinking to help me with my depression.
I can see how it would work, as I am afraid to go out in the world and afraid I will fail, but I am not convinced. Any thoughts on this?

1. Yes, positive thinking absolutely works. I was afraid to go out into the world and always was afraid of failure. Think bout it, whats the worst that can happen? I felt like this several years ago and decided that, bit by bit I wanted to live my life. I did this slowly and touchwood, succeeded. You are stopping yourself from living your life, same as I used to. Do a little every day and give yourself a pat on the back when u succeed.
Wish u well
2. If you have doubts then it most likely will fail, for it to work you need to have nothing but positive thoughts.
3. If you believe it strongly enough and want is badly enough anything is possible.
Ask yourself What have you really wanted that you did not get ?
4. Yes I don't know why it works but things are on your side if you want them to be. Its all part of realities illusion!!
5. It always helps to try and be positive about most situations. Of course with depression, its a bit harder. I think the best thing is to set yourself smaller goals and try and be positive about simple things. Once you do that you can gradual move onto larger goals to try and think positively about.
6. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. If you feel more needs to be done, don't feel bad if it comes down to medication. After SO many years of denying my problems, I did have to get put on meds, and they actually work. Thing is, you just have to find the right doctor who will actually listen to you and not twist your words around. After I was put on the right combo of medication I am so happy that I am not scared or ashamed to be MYSELF. But if you still don't want to go the medication route, be sure to get PLENTY of sun. The sun puts off rays of light that actually WILL cheer you up. That is why they sell "sun lamps" in certain places. I hope you feel better. Good luck!
7. It is all in how you personsly percieve things. You can find bad in many thing. But if you know who you are and that you have a purpose here,Jesus is all you need. Depression comes from satan. stealing your joy, telling you that you are worthless, things of this negative power is not from God. Rebuke satan and all his lies. Don't let him get the better of you, if you do all you will have is the worst of you. All things are posssible through Christ who strengthen's us. Have faith, believe, and pay attention to the better things in life. Our time here is very short.
8. It takes an openness and practice. Go about it at your own speed with some goals and free of judgment.
Check out this book:

9. Thinking positively is a good beginning. However, your mind is not able to accept all your positive thinking when you are especially depressed. What you should know is....you are not the only one suffering this kind of problem. Believe me...
Train your mind by saying that even I lost...it is OK...it is just a trail...
When your mind is ready to accept failures, it is very easy for you to bring into the positive thinking zone. Take care.
10. Positive thinking does work, the trick is to be able to think positively when you're depressed, that's the hard part. I have suffered on & off for years with depression & the only advice that's ever worked is "The secret to being happy?". Get rid of all the stuff in your life that makes you unhappy! Simple really, but not obvious when you're depressed, so begin to make some changes today & you will find happiness & become more positive in the way that you think & life will improve in leaps & bounds. Remember you read it here first! Good Luck!!!
11. my dear phie i love spiders but hate them crawling around i study them with view that i am a giant and the spider is in fear of its life if i see one i just think ime the giant and pick it up and let it walk up my arm and then place it in a safe place to live. my granddaughter once had a garden spider in her mouth and spat it out onto my shoe but she will still go out and find the mini beasts at 8 years old and sis at 3. my dear phie if you are young my god you need to see the world and please look at what lay beneath your feet. i come from the hippy period all above is is the answer and please do not be depressed because mole from swanscombe will be here
12. I have been told the same, and sneered at for not doing it.
I was made redundant at 62 years of age last February, and have been told by the few people I communicate with to be positive.
So I have positively applied for 112 jobs.
Nothing.
I wish I could help you, I really do.
all the very best, if wishing can help, you will be.
