How come depression affects different people in different ways?

Some people go through severe depression (or any other extremely negative emotion/experience) and come out a cold and negative person but for some others they come out more kindhearted and positive?

Do the ones that come out just make the wrong decisions? So therefore is everyone that is "bad" today just making the wrong decisions?

1. Well there are different severities; some people can handle it better. They may be slightly more or less motivated. They may have better support from family and doctors. Chemical imbalances in the brain play a factor as well.

2. Some people see it coming so they understand that they were right in thier guess, others not. It is just a feelin, that means that it exists in present and could be changed easily!

3. Some people choose to be bitter about it and believe that they're being punished for something. Others look at it as a spiritual journey. Some go to therapy and learn how to feel better, some think therapy won't help and they refuse. It's all about attitude and the desire to feel better.
