How was the Great Depression similar to our recession?

I am doing a Great Depression research project and I am trying to make comparisons between the recession and the Depression. I have tried to search it, but it is really confusing to understand and try to explain in my own words (I'm thirteen, and I do not plagiarize). It's not the basis of my project, just the analysis. So a few comparisons would be nice. Thank you!
