Is anyone else incredibly frustrated with this horrible mindset?
You know, the 'Hollywood' mindset where many believe that if you're not getting countless box office hits, doing mainstream stuff, or if you're not in the news enough then you're a 'no-body'.
The mindset where many believe that if someone has even the slightest bit of weight that they are 'fat cow', the mindset where if a celebrity has the audacity to age even the slightest that they are ugly and old and 'time has not been good to them'....THAT kind of mindset. It is disgusting! What is even more ridiculous is the fact that these people try to justify thinking that way. How can you justify it, really?

1. I agree with you completely. Remember the times when botox was frowned upon (no pun intended), but today they advertise it like crazy and make it seem natural. Although, there are some people in Hollywood, the ones with talent, that are not constantly in the media yet are well-known, for example Leonardo Decaprio or Meryl Streep. I think the people that make you, and many others, so angry are the so-called celebrities who are famous for doing nothing like Pris Hilton and the likes. =)
2. 1) It can't be justified. This is just another distortion of reality that Hollywood foists on us. I believe that Hollywood thinks that everyone in their movies has to be young and beautiful or no one will buy tickets. Ugly people can work, but only as villains. Older people can NEVER be the lead (unless it's a movie about old people), fat people MUST work in comedy (because everyone knows that all overweight people are jolly!), and so on. So, yeah, really frustrated.
2) Did you lose a part to someone much younger? ;-)'
3. Yep I agree with what you typed. The "Hollywood Mindset" in general is stupid. It's like you have to be a certain way, look a certain way, etc... you get the point.
4. I've been having a hard time explaining that to Taneli, really. He is finally in the US on a technical/special work visa, so he's here full time for the very first time and seeing more of what it's really like to live here. He has noticed the huge disparity in what the people on the Evil Propaganda Machine (that's the TV to you) look like and what most people outside look like. I tried explaining that kind of mindset that you just described to him and I couldn't. I really, truly couldn't.
I'm not big on who actresses and actors are - hell, I can barely remember Taneli's name sometimes - but he pointed at one flashing across the screen and announced "she needs to be in hospital". The woman was skeletally thin, not a bit of muscle on her anywhere and the voiceover was babbling on about her dress - as if it was normal to look so dangerously ill and it was the dress and shoes that deserved attention. I changed the station. I think he has a greater appreciation for my eating habits and long jogs now. He practically shoved me out the door the next morning for my jog and spent most of the day trying to force feed me. Obviously he found it disturbing.
As far as the aging thing goes - I can understand why people don't want to age or look their age. I'm very lucky in that respect. Redheads tend not to grey in quite the same way so I'm getting silver and, oddly enough, gold streaks in my hair now that I'm in my 40's. A few lines around my eyes, but other than that - well, I've got good genes, I guess. I don't particularly like the idea of botox but then again, I'm not the one with a bunch of lines. If I did have them, I may feel differently. I won't judge that, I really can't. The weight thing bothers me a lot though.
I do hope we can move away from the "bones in a very expensive bag" look and toward a more healthy look for American women. I think women look much better at a normal weight or even slightly chubby if they're not into exercise than they do when they're pathetically thin.
5. I agree...this mindset has managed to kill someone I'm obviously a fan of.
It's disgusting and it makes so many people see themselves as inperfect compared to this incredibly high standard. Ordinary people. They try to go on these diets, plaster incredibly chemically filled and animal tested products on their faces in an attempt to stop aging or even get plastic surgery. By delaying the aging process, in the end we will end up shortening it with the way we damage our bodies trying to achieve it.
I have seen more beautiful girls and women where I live than any female high class celebrity that I know of.
I mean this is a good example, they were making a movie based on a book here. And instead of using a well known actress to play the girl, they just randomly went to a school and chose a girl. She was brilliant and was in the running for an Oscar, she ended up just being too young and never got it. She should have. I have never seen such emotional acting from ANYONE. There wasn't a dry eye in the movie theatre after this scene.
