Are positive affirmations more effective when you hear them in your own voice?

I constructed my own affirmation CD today with me speaking the affirmations and overlayed with calming nature sounds. It made me wonder - is an affirmation tape more 'powerful' if it is recognisably your own voice?

Public Comments

1. yes

2. Not necessarily. If you get a good hypnotist (therapeutic) a CD made by him/her can be very effective. It depends how much self belief that you have. Also add it is what you finds suits you best!

3. No, it makes more of a difference if you know other people are supporting you than if you are alone in your opinions. It is part of human nature to seek the attention and positive thoughts of those around you, as humans are social creatures.

4. Yes. Your subconscious mind believes what YOU tell it more than it believes anyone else. So your CD is probably very effective.

5. No I think it is more the sound of the voice rather that the sound of your own voice or a familiar voice. Some people have relaxing voices, confident, funny ect. and some your brain likes and listens to more

6. sounds cool.

7. Good for you. I think its a wonderful idea.
And yes, I think hearing your own voice will cause your brain to accept these affirmations more readily.

8. The finer points of affirmations being heard by your own voice can be difficult to tell, except that if it works in the long run then it is worth the time and effort to listen to your voice.

9. I've tried all this myself and I don't believe that positive affirmations work. Let me put it this way, a dog will wag its tail if it's happy, but wagging it's tail won't make it happy. If deep down you feel inadequate in some way just muttering positive affirmations isn't going to make a scrap of difference. Of course, I don't believe in putting yourself down either. You need to take positive action to improve yourself in some way and then when you see improvement you will start to feel better. Trying to hypnotise yourself with repeated statements that you don't believe anyway is a waste of time and only leads to dispondency. Let's face it, if you did believe these statements you wouldn't need to keep telling them to yourself would you. The very fact that you're trying hard to convince yourself actually makes it less believable. It's not positive talk that counts, it's positive action, for which there is no quick and easy substitute.

11. Yes hearing them in your own voice is very good.

An attitude of gratitude will magically frame your affirmations for successful results.

I magically frame my affirmations with: “I accept and enjoy … xyz … and everything has helped this to happen”

Emile Coué first used the affirmations.. “Day by Day in Every Way” and “Every Day in Many Ways”… , successfully in the 1920’s.

Affirmations, or as I prefer to call them, Verbal Remedies work by engaging a process of creative visualization. The way to write and recite your own precision affirmations is to make your statements: Positive, Present, Personal and Specific. Here are some more useful resources for getting your mind around your own verbal remedies: http://www.psychic-junkie.com/verbal-remedies.html
The meditative state, known as the alpha state of mind, empowers your affirmations and visualizations. http://www.psychic-junkie.com/alpha-state-of-mind.html

And here is a neat bit of free kit! Motivator is a piece of free software that helps remind you of your goals. It works by unobtrusively displaying affirmation messages on your computer screen at set intervals. These messages help to regularly reinforce your goals – and provide much needed motivation for achievement that you otherwise wouldn’t receive. http://www.motivator.ws/?afl=13351
