Positive Thinking!? Ok this is something I haven't quite gotten the grasp of... like everyone I know always says t hink positive and good things will happen... the way you think about life and circumstances affects the outcome of whats to happen a great deal... is that really true? Alot of people say positive thinking has worked and made things happen the way they want to... but for some reason I can't do it... i'll be positive and hopeful for like two days and if I dont see any change ill start freaking out like oh my God ok so this just isnt meant to be etc. etc... and then i get depressed cuz I think my pessimism is gonna make life even crazier... so what exactly is the trick? How do you have such strong hope for life and things without letting in to doubts or whatever? I know its a little ambiguous the way i wrote it but if anyone understands please help me out. Thanks

One person thinks he will do good on the test, the other person questions wheather he know the material well enough. Which one will score better. I guess I should have added who would do better theoretically and in reality

In the 1970s "power of positive thinking" world it was called "reticular activation", what is it called now? I am trying to find current research in the cognitive sciences or popular psychology relating to being predisposed to see information and objects. An example is when you buy a new car you start seeing many of these cars on the road (they had been there before, but the person is now more aware). I know this was called was called the "reticular activation system" in the 1970s in the popular psychology world around the "power of positive thinking" seminars. I have been looking for more recent informaiton and research and I know the terminology has changed. But I do not know what it changed to.
What is the anecdote about the 4 minute mile & the power of positive thinking? I am being interviewed for a radio program and would like to tell this anecdote as it relates to the topic. It is something like this: for many years running the mile in under four minutes was thought to be physically impossible until someone (Robert Banning?) did it. Within weeks or months several other people did the same, the reason being they now knew that it could be done. The barrier was a mental one not a physical one. A local radio breakfast program is coming to my work to interview us about our business. Its a free promotion that airs twice weekly in Campbelltown and we have been invited to be on it. We have transition to school classes for preschoolers designed to teach them to have the confidence to accept challenges and believe in their own abilities by giving them the opportunity to succeed in early literacy & numeracy tasks. But I googled and got the info! It was Roger Bannister by the way

Can thinking "positive" change the outcome of things? For example, if I think positive about getting into my top university, will it happen? Of course I have good grades & put in a lot of effort into the application, but it is very competitive and sometimes I feel like I don't have a chance. Why does negative thinking come naturally, but positive thinking takes effort? For me, and for every person I've ever met - except for those in denial, insane, or on anti-depressants, our natural resting state seems to focus towards the negative, worst-case-scenario thinking rather than the positive, everything will be amazing, thinking. Why should this be? For me personally, my life-experience should lead me to feel grateful for what I have rather than always expect the worse and feel jealous of anyone who has more than me without working for it. Are humans born with catastrophic brains, as a survival mechanism based on preparing for the worst in our caves?
How am I expected to think positive if people are always thinking lowly of me? People are always trying to tell me what I CAN'T do, & then they tell me my dreams, goals, & wishes are irrational & unrealistic. Does positive thinking work as well as prayers? Prayers commonly involve making personal requests to God. Praying personnels are often encouraged to believe that they have already receive the things they ask for, and to give thanks to God for answering the prayer. Studies have shown that this kind of positive prayers have a relatively high degree of success in terms of prayer request fufilment. Supposing if I employ the same amount of faith, but replacing prayers with purely positive thinking and affirmation without any conscious connection to God, will it have the same effects?
What are your thoughts about Positive thinking? Do you think that sometimes our thoughts can and will manifest into something real? Example: If you keep telling yourself "I'm not good at This or That" and keep telling yourself and then you end up not being good at that particular thing. Was wondering if people out there believe in the role of positive thinking for everything around us.
Will consciously thinking positive ever become an unconscious action? Supposing there's someone who is constantly thinking negative thoughts. He goes to a psychiatrist who then tells him to kill the ANTs (automatic negative thoughts) and begins to consciously detect his negative thoughts and turn them into positives. Is this an ongoing task that he must do? Or at some point will it stick and he won't have to consciously detect his thoughts and it will just come naturally?
Thinking Positive does it really work? I heard if you think positive and believe that everything is going to work out for the best you can become successful because thinking positive makes you more self confident true or false?
How to graduate from therapy when I disagree with my therapist on positive thinking? I've been in therapy for about the past 6 months. I didn't have a job when I graduated college and not having a job and not being able to find one made me feel depressed and anxious. So I went to a therapist. Now, I'm working at a good job and will soon start a great promotion that will take me to the state capital. Now, I don't feel depressed or anxious and I want to graduate from therapy. But here is the problem: My therapist believes in "positive thinking," and I don't. Maybe that makes me a pessimist. If so, oh well. But I don't believe in thinking "things will work out," because in many cases and for many people they don't. I think that right now things look likely to work out for me personally. But I think blindly believing that things will work out is what leads people to speed, use drugs, and engage in generally risky behavior ... that I think is the true insanity. Should I just lie to her and tell her I believe? I'm kind of frustrated.

I do and i have so much confidence that through constant repetive positive thoughts, affirmations and guided imagery along with a strong faith in GOD ( by the way i am not religious i just acknowledge the existence of a higher power ) that we can overcome anything. I am not saying to rule out medical treatment. if its needed get it. but the thoughts can really cure. why is it that optimists always recover faster ?

Foods to help with positive thinking/anxiety? I have anxiety and lately have been having negative thoughts in the morning and before bed... What are some foods that will help me feel good and possibly better for my mind? I'm 17, thanks
Positive thinking? I understood that just thinking positive about something that you would like to receive does not bring anything to you just like that. When you are thinking positive about a situation or a person only when you are near to that situation your positive thinking will definitely attracts the situation that you are looking for and you will get it.The more positive you are the more quicker you will receive what you want. How many people agree with it? Quicker than negative thinking.
Positive thinking movement similar to doublethink in Orwell's1984? Positive thinking tells us to control what we focus on, forgoing negative thoughts for positive ones. Doublethink, anyone? An example: the chocolate rations in Oceania are lowered, but the people trick themselves into believing they have been raised. Positive thinking. The real question is, what's more important? Being successful or thinking you are? Imagination or reality?
